The Campbell River Salmon Kings began in the summer of 1962 by Ms. Dot Andrews. Her dream of coaching began at Moose Falls, where she trained a group of summer swimmers. She moved her athletes to Rotary Beach, followed by McIvor Lake and eventually to Centennial Pool. She moved the summer club to the outdoor pool the summer of 1967; the same year that the pool began its operation.
Since then the pool has expanded, a new heating system has been added, new washrooms, a boiler, and has had a number of paint jobs.
The summer of 2022 was our 60th year of operation for the swim club.

What is the Campbell River Salmon Kings Summer swim schedule like?
Our summer season is from May to August. Depending on age and skill, we offer anywhere from 3-6 practices per week in the summer at Centennial Pool. Practices at the outdoor pool are on weekdays. Prior to migration (our annual parade to the outdoor pool) practices at Strathcona Gardens indoor pool are on weekdays and weekends depending upon lane availability.
During the "off" season we conduct fall and winter maintenance, where swimmers can practice up to 2 hours per week typically on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from September to April.
How often do swimmers have to attend summer swim meets?
No one HAS to attend meets. We have some swimmers that just like to come to practice and do the fun things we do during the summer. We have other swimmers that attend every meet. And then we have some swimmers that pick and choose which meet they want to attend. While we recommend that all swimmers attend the local Campbell River meet, the choice is up to the swimmer.
How many meets, and which meets to attend, is completely up to the swimmer and the family.
How much fundraising is required of me, as the parent/caregiver?
Our only fundraising requirement is the sale of $100 worth of raffle tickets.
Are parents/caregivers required to volunteer?
Volunteering at swim meets and additional events is a fun way to participate with your swimmer and experience the joy of CRSK summer swim club first hand. While we do not require volunteering, we request 1 parent/caregiver volunteer at our home meet in July.
How much are summer swim club fees?
Campbell River Salmon Kings fees can change from year to year and are dependent on club costs for the pool times, coaching, fundraising, and sponsorships. Our Summer 2026 registration fee is $395, regardless of age.
Our Fall/Winter Maintenance fee is $120 per day swam. Swimmers can swim less or more depending on their needs. For example, a swimmer swimming once per week will pay $120 for one session per week (Sept-Dec or Jan-Apr), or $240 if they want to swim twice per week.
What equipment does my child need?
They swimmers need is a suit, goggles, and a towel. Nice and simple! To compete at swim meets, we also recommend team caps, which can be ordered upon registration through our ACTIVE portal.
How do I know which Swim Division my child is in?
Swim Divisions are determined by your swimmer's age. A link to the BCSSA 2026 Age Locator document is below. Find your swimmers birth year and birth month on the right hand columns of the grid and their swim division and approximate ages are indicated to the left.
